DHH Continues Daily BAYOU HEALTH Provider/Stakeholder Calls Monday –Friday from Noon to 1 PM Providers can participate in daily BAYOU HEALTH calls to get more information about the program as it is implemented across the state. The toll-free number to call is 1-888-278-0296, and the Access Code is 729 9088#. It is not necessary to pre-register, and any interested provider can participate from noon to 1 p.m. on weekdays.

Louisiana has advanced to 36th among states in Gallup Healthways’ annual index tracking well-being nationwide. Louisiana was ranked 42nd in last year’s index.

As a result of initiatives implemented by the Department of Health and Hospitals, more Louisiana kids have health care coverage. The 2011 Louisiana Health Insurance Survey shows the rate of uninsured children dropped from 5 percent to 3.5 percent during the past two years.

First Recipients to "Go Live" with BAYOU HEALTH Next Week Next week, the first group of recipients will transition to BAYOU HEALTH, when GSA A goes live on Wednesday, Feb. 1. All eligible recipients in GSA A, which comprises the New Orleans and Northshore areas, will be enrolled in a BAYOU HEALTH Plan by Feb. 1 so they can begin receiving health care services through this model on the go-live date. The go-live date does not end a recipients' ability to choose or change Health Plans. Recipients have 90 days from the date of the letter telling them the name of their Health Plan to contact the BAYOU HEALTH Enrollment Center and change Plans, if they wish to do so. After the 90-day window, recipients will have an annual enrollment period, but can change Health Plans at any time if they have a good reason to do so (e.g. moving to another area of the state, needing to see a doctor in another Plan). If recipients do not feel the Health Plan they are enrolled in is a good fit for their family, they can call 1-855-BAYOU-4U and have an enrollment agent assist them in finding the right Plan.

BAYOU HEALTH Hotline Extends Hours, Adds Saturday Call Times to Accommodate Recipients Faster Last week, the BAYOU HEALTH enrollment hotline, 1-855-BAYOU-4U (1-855-229-6848), experienced the highest call volumes to date as recipients called to speak with enrollment specialists about selecting a Health Plan for their families. To respond to the increased demand, DHH and MAXIMUS, the company the State has contracted with to handle the enrollment process for recipients, are working together to extend hotline hours, add Saturday call hours, train additional specialists and further streamline the choice process.
