Today, Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein and Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields announced a new future for inpatient behavioral health care in Central Louisiana with a two-phased plan to vacate the current Central State Hospital property and build a new facility on land adjacent to Pinecrest Supports and Services Center.

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals today announced that Magellan Health Services, Inc. is being recommended for the contract as the Statewide Management Organization (SMO) to operate the program that will provide behavioral health services to 100,000 adults and 50,000 children, including 2,500 with significant behavioral health challenges or co-occurring disorders who are in, or at, imminent risk of out-of-home placement.

The prioritization of Louisiana‟s State planning activities within this block grant application is guided by the annual Department of Health and Hospitals Business Plan and the transformational goals identified by the Office of Behavioral Health (OBH). Many of the identified service gaps and needs are addressed by the dramatic systems change currently underway in Louisiana, whereby OBH becomes a purchaser of services through a Statewide Managed Care network rather than a provider.
