Bureau of Family Health

The Bureau of Family Health works to promote the health of Louisiana families, from one generation to the next. The Bureau administers the state’s Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant program, the Title X Family Planning program, and many other initiatives designed to improve the health of men and women of reproductive age, pregnant women, and families, including children and youth with special healthcare needs.

The Bureau offers a variety of resources and services for Louisiana families, as well as data to support healthcare, social service, and public health professionals in their work.

To elevate the strengths and voices of individuals, families, and communities to catalyze transformational change to improve population health.

Louisiana is a state where all people are valued to reach their full potential, from birth through the next generation.

Priorities

Better access to quality health care for women, children, and teens.

  • More youth, family, and local leaders across the state working to protect the health and happiness of families.
  • More social, emotional, and mental health support for families.
  • Help to find needed services for children and teens, notably for those with special health care needs.
  • A better understanding of why some groups have worse health problems than others. All families deserve the chance to be healthy!
  • Better data on the health needs of moms, children, and teens.

Louisiana Coroner and Death Investigator Resources

The Bureau of Family Health is committed to strengthening and developing our Mortality Surveillance Program which includes Child Death Review, Domestic Abuse Fatality Review, and Pregnancy-Associated Mortality Review.

Partners for Healthy Babies

Partners for Healthy Babies connects Louisiana moms, parenting caregivers, and their families to health and pregnancy resources, services, and information. Call the Helpline at 1-800-251-BABY(2229). Our support staff is standing by 24/7 to answer questions and to link you to resources in your area.

Give Your Baby Space Support Infant Safe Sleep

Resources for families, caregivers, providers, and community organizations to support safe sleep environments for infants through videos, a quiz-based game, a social media feed, and an order form for outreach and educational materials. Health care providers and other community partner organizations may order safe sleep materials to support their outreach and education work.
